This day is my last day worked in Jurnal.ID #1 Online Software Accounting in Indonesia.

Well, It’s become one of the amazing paths of my life. Everyone in Jurnal.ID was extremely transparent and honest regarding how things were going to be and how the decisions were going to be made. Wohoo!

But,several times I’ve got some question about working remotely.

The first one, Is this just a trend or is this the future?

“Ten years ago, remote employment basically meant a telemarketing or customer service position at below minimum wage,” said Samantha Lambert, director of human resources at website design company Blue Fountain Media. “It rarely was connected with a full-time career. Nowadays, technology affords us the ability to get the same job done, no matter where in the world we are. [It has] enabled us to be in contact with co-workers or clients at any time.”

Well, that’s looking like the future of working hah?

But we must be remembered. When we talked about remote working, Its also talk about an environment or culture our company. Government or maybe old school company didn’t match with working remotely, and also if we talk about the Job desk, many of jobs need us to show as physically.

Dont worry, I’m one who believed the future all about technology. All sector in Industry event a government need a tech-area, which is probably our chance to going through as a remote worker.

Maybe, one day you can work as PNS (Civil Government) but you lived in Antartica. Who knows?

What do you prefer, Home office or co-working space?

I’ve tried both, very different results. I work better without noise around, and with freedom of movement. Anytime I work in a co-working space, I find that I have to leave after a few hours.

I find that sitting in an open space surrounded by 10 individuals doing their own business, making calls or simply talking out loud makes it difficult for me to focus on what I’m doing.

So for that reason, while I enjoy the energy and opportunity for human interaction the co-working space provides, I primarily work from my boarding house. I have a space in my boardig house that is separate from my living space, and I only go there to work, the rest of the time the door is closed. It’s a place of peace, with a very simple standing desk and a nice plants display.

No water cooler, meeting room or coffee machine.

Don’t get me wrong, co-working spaces make a lot of sense for a great deal of entrepreneurs and small companies. The opportunities for networking and synergistic effect these spaces provide can be extremely valuable for some, but not for me.

How you keep your spirit for doing Job?

I’ve always liked to paint, especially water painting, and since working from home painting has become more important. After the meeting or just visit the client, I’ll go to my boarding house and looking for some in dept meditation with my paint and my canvas.

Spending time to draw something, listening to the music and sometimes learn about new technique is also part of my the new routine. After that I’ll go back to my desk, boil some coffee and go back to work.

What’s the biggest struggle with working remotely?

State of Remote Work 2018

As much as remote workers have some pretty awesome benefits, they have their fair share of struggles as well.

The biggest benefit to working remotely is the ability to have a flexible schedule — 43% of remote workers were in agreementabout this. The second biggest benefit? Being able to spend time with family (15%).

Well, It’s look like two side of coins. Not always the good one, but also the bad one. But, I’m really enjoy my job and also my life. I can stick to the rule of my company without change my routine or maybe my daily life. It’s sounds fair ya?

I think there’re two main problem for working remotely. First, communication. My team usually use Slack, WhatsApp group and sometime Skype for deliver some project or just checking daily activities. It’s effective? for Long Distance Working, I think knowing movement each other has a big deal for it.

Second is about the Trusts. Well, lack of us have big issues with It. We don’t know exactly what other team doing or maybe my Boss has really know about what really I’m working for. That’s why, everyday I have regularly reported about my task today and also always keep my worksheet done before the deadline :(

The last question is, do you actually work?

After the first month working I was experiencing impostor syndrome. The learning curve was bigger than I initially expected, and I wasn’t sure I was actually doing my best.

But In the end, I have learned many things that working are not just doing what our job desk, but also how our job become our routine.
